I love that we started the year on record pace for least rainouts and ended up with possibly the most ever! Classic Calgary weather. Anywho, we made it to the end of the season.

The longer you stay in this league, the faster the seasons get. We had a couple playoff races that went down to the final weekend, and as usual the playoff standings aren’t clear until the last possible game. It’s been a pretty close season and I’m looking forward to seeing who will show up in the playoffs!

June monsoon, every year amirite? We saw a bunch of rainout games at the end of the month, but whaddaya gonna do? Just means more July and August ball! 

The top 6 teams have pretty much clinched playoff spots so far. There is a battle for the top seed with the Dukes and White Sox (currently tied with 14-3 records) facing off in July. Don’t rule out the Giants from the top seed either, as they only trail by one in the loss column and do face the White Sox twice as well.

The final two playoff spots are currently a three team race between the Longhorns, Cardinals and Guns. The Longhorns and Cardinals had all three matchups rained out in June, so that final spot could come down to those games which have been rescheduled for the end of July. The Guns also have a reschedule game with the Longhorns in July.

Now for our June studs. Again, the top hitting and pitching stud will receive a pair of flip shades courtesy Papi Sunglasses and Calgary Septic and Water. A big thank you to them for the support!

May has come and gone, and we are already ⅓ of the way done the season just like that. It’s been a hot one – only 3 games were postponed to rain, knock on wood (this has to be a new all time low btw). At this pace, we might just start the playoffs in July for the first time in a decade. Another highlight I’d like to mention is there were zero waiver infractions this season – awesome job teams!

The story on the field this year has been about offense. Maybe it is the unprecedented hot weather, maybe players are using torpedo bats, or possibly having something to do with the league supply of baseball’s – but each game seems to have one or both teams scoring in double digits. Pitchers may need to get in some more bullpen work to cool down the bats.

And now for the real highlight – the Studs of the Month returns in 2025. We are excited to have a couple new sponsors – big shoutout to Papi Sunglasses, and Calgary Septic and Water, both local businesses. The biggest offensive and pitching “studs” will receive a sick pair of shades to show off.

The 2025 season is somehow just about here, with FMBA Opening Day set for May 02.

The league is sadly down to 10 teams this season as the Canadians are hopefully only taking a sabbatical for the year, so the remaining teams will now play a 23 game schedule (up from 22 last year).

So get those pants drycleaned, get those bats re-taped, maybe tell a friend or two to come watch / announce / DJ, and lets play some ball! Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the diamond this year!

EDIT: The FMBA Annual AGM was re-scheduled to Sunday March 16th at 1pm at the Joyce on 4th.

All teams are highly encouraged to attend.

Well that’s a wrap. Congratulations to the Diamondbacks who take home their FIFTH title in a row! And 7th in 9 seasons. Dynasty Warriors!

Shoutout to the Dinos on a great run this year as well. It was a couple of great squads who went at it in the finals, as it should be.

That was a darn fun season. Lots of competition, lots of new faces in the league. From an old timer I gotta say it’s great to see! We’ll catch ya’ll again next spring for another fun summer of FMBA baseball. Can’t wait.
