2016 FMBA Annual General Meeting

The AGM is open to all members of the league.  It will start at 1:00 PM sharp – please arrive on time.

Just as last year, the meeting will take place at Axiom Mortgage Solutions – Mitch Chicoine has been kind enough to lend his boardroom once again. Directions are included below.

The meeting will be in the basement level.

DIRECTIONS:

The office is at 223 14th Street NW, it is called Axiom Mortgage Solutions.

There is a parking lot in the back. The south side of the lot is all reserved for Axiom, so we can use those spots on a Saturday (there’s about 8 of them). The next people to arrive can park behind those 8 cars blocking them in.

There is street parking along 2nd Ave as well.

An agenda will be distributed to the managers in advance of the meeting.

The Executive

Diamondbacks FMBA Champions!

Congratulations to the Calgary Diamondbacks, who defeated the Calgary Giants 3-2 in 8 innings during Game 3 of the Finals on Sunday.  It was a hard-fought series full of great baseball from both teams.

This is the first FMBA Championship for the Diamondbacks organization.

FMBA Finals Set for Weekend

The Diamondbacks(5) will take on the Giants(2) in a best-of-three to take place over Saturday and Sunday:

Saturday
Game 1: Diamondbacks @ Giants – 12:00pm
Game 2: Giants @ Diamondbacks – 2:30pm

Sunday (if necessary)
Game 3: Diamondbacks @ Giants – 2:00pm

Neither team has won an FMBA championship before.  Should be a great weekend for ball – come out and enjoy!

FMBA Senior Nationals Team Cleans House

Senior Nationals was played this past weekend in Medicine Hat and the FMBA was well represented. There were 8 players on the plus 35 National Championship team. Brent Cooper, Justin Bryant from the Diamondbacks, Jade Alberts, Craig Joyce from the Longhorns, Pat Shippit, Sean Maguire (Coach), and Neil Robertson from the Wolfpack, and Shane Black and Steve Clark from the Cardinals. The team hit 4 home runs in the tourney and all were by FMBA players. Brent Cooper mashed a 400ft-plus shot to dead center, Jade Alberts hit a Grand Slam and Craig Joyce launched 2. The rest of the players were from the Sunburst; the team meshed quickly and cleaned house at the tourney.

2016 Provincial Champions

From Calgary Giants:

The Calgary Giants were proud to be one of the two FMBA franchises represented in what was a great weekend of baseball in Innisfail for the 2016 AA Provincial Championships.  The Giants brought 16 guys north for the tournament which featured the Cold Lake Cardinals, Innisfail Indians, Calgary Cardinals and the Giants.  Through the round robin, it was the Giants and Calgary Cardinals earning berths in the finals, creating an All-FMBA provincial championship game and showing the strength and depth of talent present within the FMBA.  The Giants came out on top with a 5-0 win on Mondays final through a great effort on the hill from Steven Latos, three home runs and some solid defence.  The Giants bats created offence all tournament long, but the story for the G-men was the efforts of starting pitchers Desmond Sullivan, Drew Calanchie, Matt Bannister and Steven Latos, who all threw complete games and allowed only five earned runs through the 4 games.  We’d also like to thank the Innisfail Indians for hosting, and look forward to the Western Canadian Championships in Cold Lake in a few weeks.
