May has come and gone, and we are already ⅓ of the way done the season just like that. It’s been a hot one – only 3 games were postponed to rain, knock on wood (this has to be a new all time low btw). At this pace, we might just start the playoffs in July for the first time in a decade. Another highlight I’d like to mention is there were zero waiver infractions this season – awesome job teams!
The story on the field this year has been about offense. Maybe it is the unprecedented hot weather, maybe players are using torpedo bats, or possibly having something to do with the league supply of baseball’s – but each game seems to have one or both teams scoring in double digits. Pitchers may need to get in some more bullpen work to cool down the bats.
And now for the real highlight – the Studs of the Month returns in 2025. We are excited to have a couple new sponsors – big shoutout to Papi Sunglasses, and Calgary Septic and Water, both local businesses. The biggest offensive and pitching “studs” will receive a sick pair of shades to show off.

Is this a copy and paste job from last May? Michael Goldade of the Wolfpack tore the cover off the ball again this May. In only 5 games played he racked up 3 2B, 3 3B, 10 RBI, 9 R, and stole 6 bags to boot. Putting up a 2.080 OPS would be hard to achieve in a video game. His signature game was being a 2B shy of the cycle, powering the Wolfpack to a 10-5 victory over the Longhorns.
The Dukes Colin Rintoul had an impressive month himself. He lead the league in total bases (27), hitting .500 while slugging a crazy 1.227%, and was also the only player in the league with multiples of each type of XBH. The veteran slugger’s key game was going yard twice, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 5 in a wild 13-12 comeback win over the Guns.
You could really make a case for a couple players for the final spot, but Ben Swennumson of the Giants gets the final nod. Ben lead the league in runs scored (12), hitting .625, slugging 1.000% while adding 8 SBs in helping the Giants out to an impressive 8-1 start. This included a 4 hit game in a 12-4 victory vs the Cardinals.

The Wolfpack supply on power throwing LHP seems to be never ending. Better bring your K signs to the field when DJ DePiero is on the mound, who went 2-0 in the month. Guys I have seen some ridiculous numbers in this league, but in just 12IP DJ struck out 29 batters – my math tells me this is an absurd 2.41Ks per IP. This was highlighted by a 6IP 17 K performance in a 15-6 W over the Guns.
Taylor Kipnes has been a horse on the mound for the first place White Sox for a few seasons now. In May he logged 23IP, coming away with 3 CGs and 4 Ws, both league highs. His signature outing was the only game he didn’t throw a CG, an impressive 3-2 W over the five time defending champion Diamondbacks, in which he threw a tidy 6IP scattering 8 hits.
Like the hitting category, the last pitching spot was up for debate, but we can’t overlook Giant ace Steven Latos who continues to baffle FMBA hitters as he has for over a decade. He presently has a 0.49 ERA and 3 wins in his lone 3 starts. This included a crisp 5IP CG shutout in a 10-0 over the Dukes.
Congrats to all the May “Studs”, catch you guys in June!
